Air Duct Cleaning Allentown, PA and Lehigh Valley Areas
Avoid a Fire by Cleaning Your Dryer Vent Regularly
Dryer vent cleaning, also known as dryer exhaust sweeps or dryer vent sweeps, remove the lint that has built up in the vent after bypassing the lint trap. The buildup of lint in dryer vents causes nearly 3,000 fires a year and almost $35 million in property loss. Most of these fires happen in the fall and winter.
Signs It's Time to Clean Your Dryer Vent
Lint is highly flammable. When dryers can't get rid of hot air due to blockages in the duct, it can result in dryer and fire damage. With proper maintenance, you can avoid these situations. Look for the following signs to determine when you need to clean your dryer vent.
- No lint on lint screen
- Increased drying time
- Extra lint left on the clothing
- Clothing is abnormally hot when you take it out of the dryer
- The top of the dryer is hot to the touch after drying
- The dryer turns off repeatedly during the drying cycle
Do's and Don'ts for Dryer Vents
Do
- Do remove lint from the lint screen after every use
- Do clean your dryer vent every year to a year and a half depending on how often you use your dryer
- Do inspect the vent in the back of your dryer to make sure there is no damage
- Do check your outside vent to ensure there is no blockage
Don't
- Don't overload your dryer
- Don't use your dryer if the lint screen/filter is missing, loose, damaged, or clogged
- Don't leave your dryer running when you're not at home
